Thankful for Quiet Mornings
Until today I didn’t realize just how much my medication helps me. You see for the past few months that I have been going without it I haven’t slept well and mornings were unbearable for me. This morning amazingly I woke up before my kids and I felt pretty good, not great but good. Apparently the kids did wake up before me but only briefly because when I got up they were sound asleep once again. So I took advantage of the quiet. I made my coffee, and sat reading the news for the day. I had a whole hour that was just me and the dog and it was great. I forgot how much I enjoyed those moments between when I start my day and starting my children’s days that were about absolutely nothing.

Of course it didn’t last nearly long enough but whattayagonnado? The kids woke up and were ready and rarin’ to go. They immediately asked for “Joos” and “seweal” and “nana”. Which I happily provided for them, after I got my hugs as payment. All in all it has been a very good morning. In fact it has been so good that until a few moments ago I didn’t notice that my hands are rather stiff and kind of hurting. And good enough that I have no problems with this kid getting more cereal and watching a movie. I’m wondering to myself what kind of antics that these guys are going to throw at me today. K, he gave me the sad eyes I really should get him some more cereal.

What parent hasn’t stepped on that stray lego in the middle of the night and said ‘ENOUGH! no more Lego’s!’? But have you ever seen a toddler do the same. Picture this:
It was a rough morning for me, Lupus made my sleep last night nearly non existent despite having taken muscle relaxant to help me sleep (doctors order). So when I got up this morning I carefully traversed the living room slowly sweeping my feet from side to side in order to disarm those rogue legos poised to strike. I made it without having my feet punctured by these tiny assassins who take pleasure watching adults hop around cursing. After making my coffee and taking my meds I was greeted by Kevyn who, in his cheerful morning disposition (which cannot be handled without a cup of coffee first), ran to me with a big smile saying “MORNING MAMA!” and he gave me a big hug. He then went in to the living room to play and watch some Blues Clues when all of a sudden I hear him scream. Before I could go to him, he came into the kitchen crying holding 3 of the a fore mentioned rogue assassins and threw them in the trash.
I asked him what happened and he simply replied “Dey hurt my foot!”, I couldn’t help but laugh. He got mad at me for giggling at him and said: “Don’t laugh! IT NOT FUNNY!”. When I asked him if we should get rid of the legos he told me “No, I like da Legos”. To which I replied “Well, maybe you should make sure to put them away when your done playing with them then”. It only took a few minutes to console him and check his foot to make sure it was ok and he happily went back to watching his Blues Clues. When I came in to the living room after making breakfast I was surprised to see that he picked up the remaining legos and safely imprisoned them in a toy bin.
Now Kevyn is happily playing with the same legos that can cause so much pain but he is being rather careful for a 3.5 year old and one by one putting them back in their prison when he takes his creations apart. So while this morning’s battle may have caused some pain, Kevyn learned a very important lesson; When not being used to build things, Legos are evil foot assassins that must be carefully contained. A small victory in the battle of Legos vs. Feet!
